To give you an idea of our style of decorating, I wanted to share some pictures of what our current apartment looks like. Our aesthetic is sort of mid-century modern eclectic. I love the look of mid-century modern furniture but I like to mix it with some, more modern pieces so it doesn't look too retro. The apartment building we live in was built in the 1930s so the apartment by itself has a lot of character, which I love.
The Living Room
Let's start with the living room. Minus the couch, almost every piece of the furniture in the living room was thrifted.Ryan surprised me with this adorable chair as a gift in college. I had seen it at an antique store and loved it, so he secretly bought it for me as a gift.
The hi-fi cabinet was only $15 dollars from a thrift store. It is one of my favorite piecing in the whole room. The painting on the wall (which is painted in high school) is really just a place holder for now since we didn't have anything else to put on the wall and didn't want to leave it empty. It's actually kind of embarrassing to have it up there but I guess it is better than a blank wall?
The book shelf is another thrifted piece. The drawing above it was done by one of my dad's sisters. It is of the house that my grandmother grew up in.
Looking at these pictures I realize we like to decorate with a lot of color! I guess that's what happens when you are in an apartment where you can't paint the walls!
The Bedroom
On to the bedroom!
As a wedding gift, Ryan's dad built us a beautiful bedroom set. I mean seriously beautiful! I asked him to make them in mid-century modern-esc style. He did an amazing job.
There are are two dressers but it was hard to get a good picture of mine with the way we have to room set up. Mine is very similar to Ryan but it is shorter and longer. You can see a glimpse of it in the reflection of the mirror.
So that's our apartment! I think we will be able to use most or all of our current furniture in the new house but, we have a few extra rooms in the new house that we don't have in apartment so it will be excited to have new spaces to decorate. I'll share some of of the images I am using for inspiration in the next post.
