Betty Bowler bag for Anna

I completed the first thing off my list!  You can read more about it here, but I recently created an actual list of the things I wanted to sew so that I don't feel so overwhelmed each time I walk into my sewing room.

I have started on two other things from the list, but this is the first finish, and I have to say it's a pretty good one.  My sister, Anna, had found some fabric at the store that she really liked and requested that I make her a bag with it.  She wanted a bag that she could use as an overnight bag or weekender bag when she goes somewhere.  I have pattern that I used in the past to make a similar style bag for both Ryan and I, but I wanted to find a new pattern to try.  I decided to go with a pattern from Swoon Patterns.  I had never tried a pattern from this company before, but I'm glad I decided to try them out.  Some of their patterns look pretty intimidating, but I think the end result is that the bags look really professionally done.

I chose the Betty Bowler pattern.  Overall, I think this pattern was really pretty simple and went together quite well.  The pattern suggests to use multiple kinds of interlining, but all I had at home was fusible fleece.  I still wanted the bag to be really sturdy and have good body, so I back each piece with fusible fleece and canvas.  I am really pleased with how it turn out, and my new machine sewed through all the layers with ease.

It is the prefect size for an overnight trip.  Or maybe even a weekend trip, if you are a light packer.

Here is Anna modeling her new bag.

I have officially crossed this project off my list! I am excited to get started on the next project already!
