Completed Houndstooth Quilt

I wanted to share another quilt that I made with you. This one is completely finished, binding and all!  I had seen a few version of the quilt online and was really intrigued by the graphic quality of the quilts.  I decided to make one with colors that would match our living room.

I found a tutorial on how to make the quilt from Missouri Start Quilting Company.  I love her videos because she is always using nifty shortcuts to make the piecing really quick and easy.  To sew this whole top together, it only took me a few hours.

Once it was finished, my sister Anna and I decided to take the quilt out on a little photo-shoot to the lake.  It was a really windy day, and once you got down by the water it was freezing, but we ended up with some great photos.

You can't really see the quilting in the pictures, but I decided to quilt it with just horizontal lines.  The whole idea of free motion quilting still really intimidates me.

I had intended the back to be one solid piece, but I accidentally didn't buy enough backing fabric.  I had to get a little creative to make the backing piece big enough.  Actually, I really like how it turned out, I think it makes the back of the quilt a little more interesting.

Here is a picture showing the water.  Beautiful, but absolutely freezing!

Just to keep it real, the majority of the pictures looked more like this.  Anna did a great job holding up the quilt with all the wind. Stupid wind!
