A boring dining room

If there is one room in the house that has gotten the least amount of attention (read: no attention), it has been the kitchen/dining room.  I think it's because I just don't know how to decorate a kitchen or dining room.  A living room is easy, a couch, a coffee table, lots a little nick-knacks and pictures.  But a kitchen has to be highly functional.  You can't fill it with lots of things, because then you won't have any counter space.

The last few weeks I have been thinking about ways to decorate the kitchen and dining room while still having them be functional.  Honestly, I am still at a loss in the kitchen part, BUT I did come up with a pretty cool idea for the dining room!

Here is what the dining room looks like currently.  Not bad, just boring.

We also have these really awesome bright red chairs that Ryan got for free from work, that I would really like to use around the table.

On to the plan! Since the kitchen and the dining room are really one long room, I thought it would be fun to use the back wall of dining room as an accent wall for the whole space.  The back wall of the dining room is currently painted a brownish gray color.  I don't hate it, but it isn't very exciting.  I thought it would be really fun to paint the back wall in a really graphic way.  Here are a few inspiration images I found on pinterest.

Clearly, none of theses are kitchens, but I love the idea of a bold graphic stripe is a fun color.  Also, I think it would be really exciting and different and to have giant painted saying on the wall, like the last image, but maybe something more food  or kitchen related.

It will be a whole weekend project for sure, but I think it would really add some pop to this otherwise very unexciting area of the house.

I'll keep you posted on the progress!
