First weavings off the loom!

In my last post I talked about how to make a lap loom.  Now, I have a few weavings to show you!  The first weaving I did was a hot mess, so I scraped it. I mostly just wanted to try out different stitches and yarns.

The second was more of a success.  Very far from perfect, but I am still pretty proud of it.

I made up the pattern as I went, and pretty much made up how to make it as well.  The basics of weaving are really very simple, but figuring out how to fit different shapes together is a little more complicated.  For having no real idea of what I was doing, I think it turned out okay!

This is my third and favorite piece, so far.  I played around with different stitches which give different textures.

The sides of my pieces are rather wonky because I am still figuring out how to keep the overall width of the piece even.  Both of my pieces are wider at the bottom and get narrower as they go up.  I think the more pieces I make, the better I will get at controlling the tension of the weave.

Overall, I really love weaving.  It is perfect for taking with you in the car if you have a long trip.  It is also very relaxing. I am finding that it is a great way to sit and unwind a little from the day.

I am excited to start making new projects and to continue trying out different yarns and stitches!
